Dow AgroSciences Canada Inc. is a research based, agricultural sciences company with a diverse product portfolio including weed, insect and disease management for agricultural/horticultural crops and products for forestry and industrial vegetation management. The company has also made significant investments in developing a plant genetics and biotechnology platform in canola and corn. This investment is focused on a range of research for the development of input production traits and value-added quality traits. Dow AgroSciences has established field research capabilities across western and eastern Canada including a plant breeding and cell biology group based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Dow AgroSciences is seeking a Field Scientist to join our Crop Protection R&D group. The purpose of the Field Scientist job is to: (1) plan and implement field research and development programs to validate the field performance of new product concepts; (2) recognize future marketplace needs and influence the development of new product concepts; and (3) provide technical support to maximize sales of new and existing products. The Field Scientist develops and maintains effective relationships with University, academic and private research collaborators, key customers, and other centers of influence; provides commercial technical support; and characterizes new products through self-initiated field trials, contract research, and cooperative research with other agronomic professionals.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Plan and implement field research programs to validate the performance of new products and technologies in development.
* Establish research relationships with University, extension and consultant cooperators.
* Identify new business opportunities for Dow AgroSciences, keep abreast of market trends, and influence development of new products.
* Develop and maintain key contacts within the technical community (university, extension, federal and state agencies, natural resource non-governmental organizations, and industry/commodity associations).
* Provide direct technical support to the Dow AgroSciences commercial team.
* Promote proper use of Dow AgroSciences products through development and delivery of product stewardship programs.
* Applicants should have an in-depth knowledge of the theories and practices of agricultural science and a demonstrated proficiency in conducting and publishing refereed research.
* A working knowledge of agronomic production practices, crop protection, biotechnology, molecular biology and/or plant genetics would also be to the candidates advantage.
* Although not required, a Ph.D. degree in Weed Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Crop Sciences or related Agricultural or Biological Science Degree is desired.
* Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to transfer technology through scientific presentation and publication.
* The job requires practical knowledge of education techniques and experience transferring technical information to diverse audiences.
