Dow Chemical Quality & Testing Engineer in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Dow Water’s Reverse Osmosis Site in Edina, MN, has an exciting and challenging opportunity available for a Quality and Testing Engineer (also known as Production or Run Plant Engineer) working across the site in the utilities and testing areas, in addition to supporting quality / analytical applications on site and in support of our KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) assets. This role will lead technical staff in the day to day work and strategically develop a holistic approach to our ancillary assets in this space to drive improved quality, operating discipline, reliability, training and day to day work in the analytical space as needed across the site. This role will also support long term strategic analytical and quality work.
The Run Plant Engineer is a technical resource for operations personnel, applying technical skills within the Manage Production (MP) work process, to optimize plant operations, resolve plant problems and enable safe production of high quality reverse osmosis elements. The engineer works as a member of the plant operating team ensuring excellence in safety, quality, operations and maintenance. The role provides a technical resource to assist work teams on daily performance improvements, equipment modifications and upgrades, and new product qualifications and trials.
/Working across plant laboratories and/or analyzer groups supporting Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS) Reverse Osmosis (RO) value center, this role also provides analytical technical expertise, implements most effective technology, and improves analytical system performance and reliability in alignment with business / function / site analytical strategies. Although work is primarily in RO Edina, Minn site – leading and analytical strategy and tactical plans in KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) is also required. This work may require site visits to KSA RO site./
Active support and participation in site environmental, health and safety initiatives to drive EH&S excellence.
Participates in and / or leads Management of Change reviews
Provides leadership and direction in the day to day decision making for the operating area of responsibility, and monitors and intervenes with plant operators to meet quality and production targets.
Works with the plant operators and Quality Coordinator to ensure that the products being fabricated conform to the manufacturing specifications.
Participates in root cause investigations and advanced trouble shooting and coaches others to learn these skills. Ensures findings are documented in plant operating discipline for future usage.
Has expert knowledge of the fabrication process, products and technology, and works with Technical Advisors, Improvement Engineers, and the Technology Center to ensure that equipment is performing to design specification.
Helps to drive the implementation of Dow’s best practices and standards including LEAN Manufacturing, operate plant, maintenance, reliability, and EH&S work processes.
Monitors machine performance and of work team performance. Enhances performance through coaching, training gap analysis and communication of expectations.
Works with Plant Process Control Coordinator to ensure process automation is fully optimized for the equipment.
Participates in advanced trouble shooting and coaches others to learn these skills.
Supports operators and technical advisors in procedure usage, creation, reviews, updates and approvals when assigned.
Supports new product manufacturing capability and new product qualifications.
Provides input for equipment/process enhancement for the development of the next generation of machines.
Communicate technical information and issues to plant personnel, Technology or Expertise centers.
Networks with other engineers on site and within the business to leverage knowledge on plant operations.
Able to effectively lead optimization activities and ongoing process improvement initiatives, including projects for EH&S compliance, reliability, capacity, process consistency, quality and cost reduction.
Ensure implementation of MET (Most Effective Technology) analytical technology and methodology.
Provide analytical and process chemistry expertise to resolve process, product and analytical problems.
Provide the analytical technical link between both Edina and KSA sites, RO value center and DW&PS business, and functions.
Promote the use of the Analytical Work Process (AWP), and Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) and ODMS (Operating Discipline of Manufacturing Service) procedures and practices.
Perform complex analyses and interpret and report analytical data.
Implement improvements per the Site Analytical Strategy .
Assist in the development of capital plans.
Network with other technical personnel to stay current with analytical and process technologies and leverage.
Validate and qualify new equipment and methods.
Anticipate analytical and product quality problems and address proactively.
Continuously improve and leverage EH&S, quality and analytical best practices.
Optimize Sample Plans to meet the needs of stakeholders.
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is required
3-5 years manufacturing experience required
Ability to work effectively on multiple projects

Run plant engineers are required to be part of the plant “on call duty rotation”, and in case of plant upsets, maybe required to work additional hours as needed to help resume normal production.
