Dow Chemical 2017/2018 Campus Graduate - Information Research (R&D) - Robotics Developer in Midland, Michigan

The Dow Chemical Company's Research and Development (R&D), Information organization has exciting and challenging opportunities for full time hires for*new graduate Bachelor, Master or PhD candidates. * These positions are located in Midland, Michigan.

The Information Research (IR) group provides information technology and information management-based solutions to drive value and accelerate discovery in the R&D organizations throughout Dow. Information Research is focused on making Dow Research and Development the best at using information technology for a competitive advantage.

The Automation team is seeking a mechanical, chemical or electrical engineer for the development of custom laboratory robotic systems for use in diverse global applications in Core R&D. The candidate must possess good communication, teamwork skills, and a passion in learning and developing laboratory robotic-based applications. The candidate is expected to have software program and instrumentation skills listed below. Travel will be required to other Dow locations (5%).

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, Automation, Computer Sciences and Computer Engineering. The candidate must possess:

Programming Languages

  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Visual Studio , C#, C

  • Ability to quickly learn the basics of other languages and interface to programs written in them, if necessary.

  • Understanding of, and ability to write multi-threaded applications

  • Understanding of and ability to write COM (Component Object Model) applications

  • Exposure to Measure and Control software (LabVIEW) is desirable.

Instrumentation Skills and Experiences

  • Exposure to robotics and robotic competitions (FIRST Robotics)

  • General mechanical knowledge

  • Understand instrument interfacing and basic electronics and occasionally trouble-shoot faulty interfaces

  • Understand hardware and software communication port (serial, USB, Ethernet)

  • Experience with programming ladder logic on PLC

  • Electrical design emphasizing simple 24V DC and logic wiring diagrams

  • Exposure to Embedded Control technology

A minimum of a 2.700 cumulative GPA is required.
