The Sr. Molecular Biologist - Metabolic Engineering position within the BioProcess R&D function of Dow AgroSciences, provides technical expertise for microbial strain engineering research for microbial expression platforms of interest to Dow AgroSciences.

The purpose of this job is to contribute scientific expertise in molecular microbiology to exploit expression platforms of interest to Dow AgroSciences. Primary components of the job include:
* Providing substantial laboratory expertise related to microbial strain improvementincluding the definition and the execution of research strategies to achieve strain improvement goals;
* Leading technology identification and implementation to accelerate strain development goals;
* Interfacing with complimenting components of strain development programs (for example, fermentation research, process development, and manufacturing) to ensure effective, timely implementation of improved strains.
Examples of responsibilities expected from this role are as follows:
* Provide significant hands-on, laboratory technology development founded in state-of-the-art techniques for screening, selection and genetic modification of microbial systems.
* Provide strong technical mentorship to less-experienced group members, peers, and cross-functional team members.
* Develop and deploy sound project management skills including the ability to define strategies for exploring novel technical approaches and to execute against business-aligned timelines to deliver against those strategies.
* Monitor emerging technologies to accelerate program objectives and translate leads into actionable research activities.
* Interact as a fully participating member of strain development programs. Influence colleagues responsible for fermentation research to ensure technology options are explored and deployed most effectively.
* Ensure that sound scientific discipline (Scientific Method, technical documentation, intellectual property management and peer review) is applied to all research.
* As driven by project needs, build and sustain a technical network (across Dow AgroSciences functions, and externally) that is deployed to ensure project success.
This position is located in Indianapolis, IN, USA.

* PhD in microbiology or molecular biology with up to 5 years of relevant research experience is preferred
* Direct experience with actinomycete genetic manipulation and physiology is an advantage
* Project management experience is a plus

Technical Knowledge (genetic engineering techniques, bioinformatics, specific experience with actinomycetes and complex secondary metabolite production).

Strong Scientific Knowledge including a network to relevant academic groups.
