This job, within the BioProcess R&D function of Dow AgroSciences, provides project leadership and technical expertise for microbial systems biology research for microbial expression platforms of interest to Dow AgroSciences.
The purpose of this job is to contribute scientific expertise in systems biology to exploit expression platforms of interest to Dow AgroSciences. Primary components of the job include:
* Provide project and technical leadership to an integrated program of systems biology;
* Provide substantial laboratory expertise in one or more of the following areas of systems biology: genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, genome scale modeling, metabolic flux analysis;
* Lead detailed and integrated data analysis to identify targets to enable strain and fermentation development goals;
* Lead technology identification and implementation to accelerate strain and fermentation development goals;
* Interface with key technical areas (for example, metabolic engineering, high-throughput strain screening, fermentation research, computational biology) to effectively integrate systems biology to technical platforms
Responsibilities:
* Develop and deploy sound project management skills including the ability to define strategies for exploring novel technical approaches and to execute against business-aligned timelines to deliver against those strategies.
* Provide strong technical leadership founded on significant expertise in systems biology
* Provide significant hands-on, laboratory technology development founded in state-of-the-art techniques for exploring systems biology
* Provide strong technical mentorship to less-experienced group members, peers, and cross-functional team members.
* Monitor emerging technologies to accelerate program objectives and translate leads into actionable research activities.
* Interact as a fully participating member of microbial expression platforms. Influence colleagues across different technical platforms to ensure systems biology is explored and deployed most effectively.
* Ensure that sound scientific discipline (Scientific Method, technical documentation, intellectual property management and peer review) is applied to all research.
* Identify needs for external collaborations and manage collaborations as needed to accelerate the microbial systems biology program
* As driven by project needs, build and sustain a technical network (across Dow AgroSciences' functions, and externally) that is deployed to ensure project success.
Key Competencies:
* R&D Functional: Technical Knowledge (at least one of the following: genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, metabolic flux analysis; bioinformatics, microbial systems biology).

This position is located in Indianapolis, IN, USA.
* PhD in systems biology, microbiology, biochemical engineering or related field with up to 5 years of systems biology research experience is preferred
* Project management experience is essential
* Ability to analyse and integrate large datasets and derive firm conclusions there from
* Experience working in and leading interdisciplinary teams
