Seeds &amp; Traits R&amp;D is seeking a Field Research Biologist to provide field project management for research activities at the site. The primary purpose of this job is to manage all activities related to corn Trait Introgression and Event Sorting research nursery work. In addition, this position will participate in overall site activities to support the achievement of company deliverables for Environmental Health &amp; Safety, people development, and budget success.

Primary responsibilities will include:
·     Conduct various event sorting and trait introgression activities, including but not limited to the management of; nursery planning, seed handling, planting, thinning, gene checking, tissue sampling, pollinating, note-taking, plant selection, harvesting, drying, data analysis, reporting, and seed shipping.
·     Collaborate with the HI Research Manager, Project Managers, other Field Research Biologists and laboratory resources to establish project priorities, and implement against plan.
·     Lead in building and maintaining a culture of safety at the station.
·     Lead process improvement activities as well as steward deployment of existing procedures related to the site’s research activities.
·     Collaborate with Molokai Site Management to organize field resources for the implementation of project plans.
·     Develop people through coaching and staff training in technical and leadership skills.Collaborate with research stations within DAS to exchange ideas in order to maximize performance of the team.

The Seeds business within Dow AgroSciences (DAS) includes multiple production locations. The Kauai location produces foundation seed corn, primarily for Mycogen Seeds. The seeds business is a component of Seeds, Traits, and Oils (STO) organization within Dow AgroSciences, and is committed to developing innovative new products to serve growers and feed the world's growing population.

The Production Technician will perform a wide variety of routine and non-routine plant, production and foundation operations duties or field operations. Under general supervision the Production Technician works on assignments where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations. May select appropriate procedures to complete tasks and work is performed within standard methods.

This role may specialize in Field, Plant Operations, or specialized equipment related activities. The incumbent is expected to learn and participate in any areas as necessary per management request in order to meet site production objectives.

Key Responsibilities Include:

* Operate field, drying and seed processing equipment
* Operate dryers to achieve dry down moistures that meet quality standards.
* Observe, record, and maintain data in appropriate formats to ensure operations process is maintained within standard guidelines.
* Treats and conditions planted seed paying special attention to handling any hazardous materials in a safe manner.
* Operate personal computer, hand-held data collection devices, and standard control systems. Has basic familiarity with crop database and computer software.
* Perform routine maintenance on field equipment and commercial vehicles.
* May provide work direction to other operations technicians to accomplish daily activities, projects and assigned tasks. Assists with training of other operations staff as required.
* May be responsible to organize warehouse contents and activities of other staff while ensuring warehouse is kept in good order, is well maintained and safe.
* May determine need for, recommended rates, and application of herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and fertilizers as required in a safe manner.
* Will need to perform chemical mixing tasks according to label recommendations and safety protocols.
* May assist in data collection at the direction of the Management staff. Records and reports deviations from normal operating procedures to Supervisor.
* Complete periodic audits of spray program, chemical inventory, WPS standards, MSDS/label program.
* May suggest new approaches or improvements based on technical information and work experience.
* Must be able to understand pesticide labels and requirements.
* May set up and operate simple and complex equipment including planters, tractors, combines, sprayers, cultivators, plows, forklifts, seed treaters and counters, shellers, threshers and gins. Follows oral instructions and written standard operating procedures.
* May need to operate commercial vehicles used to haul products and equipment; maintains up-to-date Commercial Drivers License.
* Provide stewardship for EH&amp;S policies and practices in all work activities.
* The Production Technician role may be required to operate, maintain, and provide expertise around the irrigation system for the site.
* Ability to learn or perform hand pollinations activities.
* May need to develop spray schedules, based on weed pressure, insect population or disease pressure.

The Improvement Engineer/Specialist candidate will be aligned to the Dow AgroSciences / Seed Traits and Oils business globally, but located in North America. The primary purpose of this roll will be to provide improvement and project execution support for the DAS seed facility in Kauai, thus the role will be based in Kaumakani, Hawaii.

The purpose of the role is to:
* Lead the improvement process by gathering and analyzing data
* Identifying and evaluating improvement opportunities, and implementing improvement projects. 
* The candidate will partner with Operations and the Technology Center to drive improvement results. 
* This role will initially be focused on evaluating gaps in current operations to help prioritize future capital, expense, and knowledge based solutions as well assignment of tech center resources for resolution of operational gaps.
The Improvement Engineer/Specialist assures site improvements align with the Plant Specific Technology Plan, and regional/global strategies, thereby closing local performance gaps and increasing Asset Capability (AC). He/she provides site level improvement project support, which may include fulfilling roles for project execution work processes (ex. Global Project Methodology (GPM), Six Sigma, Lean, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:
* Early stage project evaluation (Front End Loading) including layout, cost estimates, engineering feasibility and engineering bid packages.
* Assist with the implementation of Business-supported projects as identified in the Plant Specific Technology Plan
* Partner with operations and tech center personnel to gather and analyze data, identify gaps, and evaluate improvement and project opportunities
* Facilitate the execution of projects on site.
Partner with operations to form and lead a site improvement team that will help identify plant needs and potential solutions. Validate improvement opportunities using global tools and economic analysis and lead the building/revising of the Plant Specific Technology Plan
* Assist in closing performance gaps, which can include project execution
* Provide technical support, and coach site personnel on measurements and updates of technology performance and asset utilization data
* Provide data to validate that projects deliver performance objectives after implementation
* Utilize engineering or real experience to evaluate / develop technical solutions
* Utilize the TICA and GPM work processes to deliver value.
